We have a great opportunity to hire a detail-oriented Law Clerk/Legal Assistant to join our practice.
Qualifications:
- One to five years experience working as a Legal Assistant/Law Clerk
- Post secondary education (Legal Assistant/Law Clerk/Paralegal)
- Sound administrative, time management, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and grammatical)
- Above average interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to be proactive and follow through.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work to deadlines
- Demonstrates sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Above average keyboarding/computer skills (primarily Word and Outlook)
- Knowledge of the Family Rules and all relevant legislation including Divorce Act, Family Law Act, Children’s Law Reform Act
- Previous experience with LEAP Legal or Divorce Mate software is an asset
- Strong client service skills, and finally
- Exceptional docketing practice
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Management of matters from open to close: intake, retainers, directions;
- Communicating with clients, court staff, and other third parties by phone and email;
- Scheduling of appointments and court appearances along with overall management of calendar
- General administrative tasks
- Organizing and maintaining files
- Preparing and drafting legal documents and correspondence;
- Preparing and electronic filing of various court materials;
- Understand and apply knowledge of The Rules of Family Law
- Managing billing and accounting processes, including docket entry, preparation of client accounts and invoices
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the firm.
The ideal candidate for this opportunity will possess at least two years' experience as a legal assistant/law clerk. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong eye for detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and able to interact with professionalism and diplomacy.
