Your Role
Reporting to the Project Manager (Design), you will play a key role in our design division. As Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for the execution of projects from design through to construction. You will ensure all Enersolv standards and codes are implemented and you will be responsible for meeting and exceeding client expectations while continuously improving the project bottom line.
Responsibilities
- Mentor junior staff providing technical guidance and coordinating activities of those assigned to projects
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations
- HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems design
- Coordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team
- Coordinate service requirements/connections with utility and/or municipal agencies
- Review/supervise drafting, prepare/review markups
- Attend project progress meetings and provide updates to the assigned Project Manager
- Prepare tender documentation including specifications
- Perform field reviews, site surveys and final inspections
- Carry out contract administration including shop drawings reviews
- Assist/ participate in the development of training material, design workshops, presentations, and other educational resources for junior staff.
- Assist in the constant improvement of internal processes related to Design only, and Design & Build projects
- Keep current on new developments in relevant codes and innovative design
- Assist with fee proposal preparation
- Maintain client relations and develop business opportunities with new clients
- Collaborate with the Construction Division during Design & Build process
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems
- 3+ years AutoCAD experience
- LEED® Accredited Professional designation or Green Building Certification is an asset
- Knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, ASHRAE, CSA, CCDC, ASPE, NFPA and other applicable codes and standards
- Professional Engineer (PEng) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) preferred
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Ability to prepare working drawings using AutoCAD (Revit an asset)
- Ability to read Architectural, Structural, Electrical drawings with minimal supervision
- Ability to apply prescriptive requirements of plumbing, building and fire protection codes
- Ability to work on multiple projects at once
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in supervising/mentoring others
- Ability to work with clients, contractors, consulting engineers and suppliers in a professional manner
