Psychiatrist – Clinician Investigator or Clinician Educator

The University Health Network Centre for Mental Health in conjunction with its Division of Medical Psychiatry and the Department of Supportive Care at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is seeking to recruit a Clinician-Investigator or Clinician Educator. The successful applicant should be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The effective start date of appointment is July 1, 2019 or as mutually agreed upon.
The Division of Medical Psychiatry cares for individuals at the intersection of medicine and mental health. The Department of Supportive Care at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM) provides psychiatric care to cancer patients and their families in the context of a multidisciplinary outpatient program, as well as consultation and follow-up to inpatients at Princess Margaret.
The successful candidate should have clinical and research training in cancer psychiatry and in therapeutic interventions with cancer. This individual should have expertise in psychological and pharmacological interventions with cancer patients, and be able to develop a research program investigating psychological disturbances and interventions in patients with advanced cancer. Expertise in existential psychotherapy will be an asset.
This position has robust clinical and academic components along with teaching for undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate and fellowship training. As a result, candidates should have obtained advanced academic training and have exhibited academic excellence and productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific meetings. Experience in teaching and quality improvement in psychosocial oncology and palliative care will be an asset.
The successful applicant must hold MD and FRCPC qualifications (or equivalent specialist designation) and have, or be eligible for licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Ontario as stipulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
Candidates should also be eligible for faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor
Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will also depend upon the amount of clinical work performed (estimated based on fee for service billing) but will be in the usual range for an experienced Psychiatrist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $225,000 to $250,000 per year. Depending upon final job description there is additional support for protected academic and program development time through a variety of funding mechanisms in the Centre for Mental Health.
