Communications & Marketing Advisor

The Executive Services Department, Communications & Marketing division is accepting applications for one (1) regular full-time Communications & Marketing Advisor. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications & Government Relations, this position is responsible for public relations, communications, and marketing support for Town of Milton initiatives, programs and services. This position requires expertise in strategic communications planning, media relations, digital strategy and issues management within the Corporate Services, Engineering and Fire Departments. The successful incumbent must be available to work variable hours including evenings/weekends on occasion.

Major Job Responsibilities

Develops integrated communications and marketing strategies from conception to completion (research, analysis, planning, execution, evaluation) for Town initiatives, programs and events
Liaises with key departmental stakeholders to provide strategic communication and marketing advice; including best practices, budgeting, messaging and evaluation
Advises on current best practices, shares expertise and provides technical coaching as it relates to communications and marketing mediums and tools
Manages the implementation of multiple concurrent communications and marketing plans for programs, services, events and initiatives for various client groups
Develops and executes social media strategies
Creates and produces materials for communications and marketing initiatives; including website and social media content, printed materials, advertisements, etc.
Writes media releases, maintains positive relationships with the media and proactively identifies opportunities for positive public relations
Collaborates with graphic designers to produce communications and marketing collateral (i.e. advertisements, brochures/posters, social media content), newsletters (digital and print), and signage
Liaises with and gives direction to suppliers and consultants related to the execution of creative services and content such as videos, advertising, design, website development, photography and printing
Responds in a timely fashion to requests for information and services from staff, customers and other stakeholders
Proven knowledge of the principles and best practices of public engagement
Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with department and corporate objectives
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related discipline
Minimum five (5) years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations or related industry
Experience in strategic communications planning, marketing and media relations with a demonstrated ability to evaluate success
Advanced proficiency in all aspects of digital and social media
Accreditation or certification from CPRS, IABC, IAP2 or similar professional organization is an asset
Familiarity with public administration/municipal government and knowledge of the Milton community is an asset
Experience with crisis communications and emergency management is an asset

Salary Range: $72,248 - $90,310 (35-hour workweek)
