The Urgency & Our Mission
The Canadian Knife and Tool Institute (CKTI) is stepping up to fight a critical threat to Canadian tool users.
Currently, the CBSA has shifted from random inspections to a systematic reclassification campaign. While flippers are the current target, other one-handed opening knives are also being aggressively targeted under the claim that they can open via centrifugal force.
We are here to educate the public and protect the rights of the millions of responsible Canadians who rely on these tools on a daily basis. From first responders and tradespeople to hunters, fishermen, and collectors, these restrictions directly impact the safety, livelihoods and our communities.
Who We Are Looking For (Skin in the Game)
We aren't looking for a corporate PR agency or a detached spreadsheet manager. We want an organized, practical individual who understands the gravity of what is happening and genuinely believes in the right to carry and use these tools responsibly.
If you are a collector, an avid outdoorsman/woman, a hunter, or a tradesperson, your passion and understanding of the community will give you immediate credibility when speaking with our network. You aren't just managing a pipeline; you are helping protect our community's rights.
Role Overview
You will help manage our daily stakeholder communications during a critical launch phase. You will act as a key point of contact for retail dealers, manufacturing vendors, and outdoor organizations across Canada—keeping them informed, engaged, and united against these regulatory overreaches.
This role combines high-volume community outreach in the first few weeks with routine administrative tracking.
Key Responsibilities
Partner Outreach: Reach out to existing and prospective retail dealers and vendors to share organizational updates, campaign packages, and advocacy milestones.
Inquiry Management: Monitor incoming emails and questions from industry stakeholders, providing prompt, professional, and knowledgeable responses.
Organization Connections: Contact adjacent Canadian outdoor, hunting, tactical, and trade groups to share campaign details and build a united coalition.
Admin & Tracking: Keep our outreach database (Google Sheets/Excel) 100% accurate, updating contact info and tracking communication history in real-time.
Qualifications
Community Connection: A genuine interest in knives, outdoor tools, or the trades. You understand the culture, the current legislative threat, and why protecting these rights matters.
Clear, Professional Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication. You can speak confidently as an informed peer to business owners, retail managers, and fellow enthusiasts.
Reliable Organization: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing spreadsheets and email pipelines.
Lower Mainland Based: Able to work independently from home, but located locally to allow for occasional in-person alignment check-ins.
Immediate Availability: Ready to onboard and begin outreach quickly.
