Job Summary

Mechanical Technicians at ORO Design & Manufacturing Ltd. are tasked with mechanical and hydraulic assembly of custom service bodies. Primary duties include building sub-assemblies, installing assemblies on bodies, as well as installing and troubleshooting hydraulic and electric power systems. An ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and a desire to constantly learn and improve.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
  • Install, align, dismantle and remove mechanical equipment on vehicles, such as pumps, hoses, compressors, engines, tanks, according to layout plans using hand and power tools
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts
  • Assemble, fit and install prefabricated parts to form subassemblies or finish products using hand and power tools
  • Position, align and adjust parts for proper fit
  • Locate and drill holes to allow for installation of components
  • Fasten parts together using bolting and riveting equipment or other fastening and joining techniques
  • Check subassemblies and inspect finished products for proper quality
  • Perform service work on existing equipment including teardowns and rebuilding

Qualifications and Skills

Employment Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school
  • 3 years of work experience in a mechanical trade (i.e. machinist, millwright)
  • Industry courses in a mechanical trade (i.e. machinist, millwright, etc.)
  • Own tools and safety gear required to perform job

Skills Requirements

  • Experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
  • Ability to operate various power tools to assemble, cut, sand components
  • Keen attention to detail and tidiness
  • Examine end product to ensure it meets quality standards and is aesthetically correct
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Desire to solve problems and continuously improve manufacturing processes
  • Professional and responsible attitude towards work and colleagues
