The Life Skills and Vocational Coach ensures that the monthly intake targets are met within the fiscal year. Provides on going support & guidance to participants. Ensures that all required documentation is carried out within the context of the Agency’s Mission, Board approved policies & organizational practices and Funder’s criteria.

Responsibilities:
- Books appointments & accepts incoming referrals from various community agencies
- Conducts initial needs assessment & interviews of potential clients
- Identifies motivation level, barriers, education, prior work experience & upcoming appointments with clients
- Makes referrals to appropriate sources and or other Government/Community agencies
- Performs Case Management & monitors intake and client data base and files
- Oversees Mentoring component and mentor pool
- Maintains regular contact with clients at least once a month for follow ups, support and guidance
- Researches, documents, designs & delivers a variety of Life & Employability skills workshops
- Completes file work adhering to funders standards & maintains case notes
- Provides assistance & tools with clients job search such as resumes & cover letters
- Conducts one on one counselling pertaining to barriers to employment
- Works with clients individually and in groups to explore & discuss solutions to problematic situations while promoting ownership of responsibilities & a philosophy of self reliance
- Identifies clients short & long term goals and assist them in this process by providing steps to achieve their potential (Educational options, Health, Housing etc.)
- Attends weekly staff meetings and rotates Chairperson & Secretarial role as required
- Assists with program specific special events and fundraising initiatives
- Attends Volunteer Recognition Night, Annual General Meeting and participates in UW Campaign
- Participates in and supports agency-wide special events and fundraising initiatives
- Participates in agency wide committee(s)
- Ensures an approach that displays a positive attitude, sensitivity and understanding towards people of all abilities, backgrounds and orientation
- Carries out other duties as assigned
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications:
- To perform this job an individual must be objective, non judgmental in their approach & have experience in various counseling techniques in order that the clients needs, personality & employment barriers can be addressed in an open environment.
Education: Degree/ Diploma in Social Service Field/ Employment Counselling or equivalent
Experience: 5 years experience working with youth with multiple barriers. Related youth work experience in Employment Counseling Field and workshops facilitation.
Skills:
- Knowledge of employment counseling techniques including assessments, interviewing & job search
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, time management & team building
- Ability to adapt to a variety of changes within the job
- Excellent listening & communication skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Knowledge of various counseling techniques
