What You’ll Do
As an Mental Health Worker, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting clients as they navigate the challenges of mental health recovery. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assure the security of Wakamow Place including monitoring tenant compliance with program
- Provide assistance to tenants as part of their daily routine as required
- Dispense medications as required and assist in medication management
- Provide crisis intervention as may be required
- Provide support in the areas of the psychosocial education as required.
- Follow through with the Individual Program Plan of the tenant
- Assure appropriate records are completed in a timely manner, such as the staff log, tenant program log and contact notes and incident reports
- Provide information in the tenant log regarding the behavior, needs, and concerns of tenants.
- Participate in staff meetings and training
- Provide social and recreational opportunities to the tenant group
- Provide one to one supportive counseling for life skills
- Organize and conduct group sessions in areas such as skills training, interpersonal relationships and recovery education
- Provide training and management in areas such as cooking, shopping, budgeting and medication management as determined by the case manager
- Provide assistance to tenants as part of their daily routine as required
- Organize and participate in recreational activities
What We’re Looking For
You’re someone who cares deeply about helping others. You have strong communication skills and can handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and empathy.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 Diploma.
- Completion of a relevant formal course of instruction such as a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in the area of Mental Health/Addictions is an asset.
- No less than one year in a setting with adults who experience severe mental illness.
- Knowledge of recovery processes, and mental health services.
Skills and Attributes

· Effective communication and conflict resolution abilities.
· Ability to work independently.
· Compassionate, proactive, and resilient in high-stress situations.
Preferred (if you do not have these trainings, they will be provided to you)
· CPR and First Aid
· Professional Assault Response Training (PART)
· Mental Health First Aid
· Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
· Food Safe Handling Certificate
· WHMIS
Hours of Position:
Start: September 12 (or sooner), 2026
Shifts: Saturday and Sundays, 3pm - 11 pm plus all STAT holidays 3pm - 11pm.
Status: This position is temporary scheduled until January 31, 2027. It may end sooner, dependent on the undetermined return date of the former employee. A month's notice is given should the position expire early, or be extended.
Additional information: Preference will be given to applicants who are willing to work the second weekend position available (8am - 4pm) as well. Resulting in working 8am - 11pm Saturday and Sunday (total of 30hrs / week, plus all STATS). Please indicate in your application if you are interested in both weekend positions.
