Housing Resources Description:
Carrrefour Autonomie P.A.L. (CAP) and Logi-PAL are housing resources for people with mental health challenges. CAP can accommodate 4 people for a stay of approximately one year. The building also has 4 apartments where 8 long-term residents live. Logi-PAL has 6 apartments for a maximum of 8 residents (permanent) who access the services of the mental health housing workers on an as-needed basis. The housing workers (working only on weekdays) share responsibilities related to the housing resources.
Profile of Applicant:
We are looking for a proactive, responsible, and organized mental health housing worker to assist residents of CAP and Logi-PAL and ensure the effective day-to-day management of the buildings. This dual-role position combines psychosocial support with hands-on property management responsibilities, including rent collection, coordinating repairs, and overseeing building operations.
The person in this role will play a key part in fostering residents’ independence and well-being, while maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming living environment. They will join an experienced team committed to supporting people living with mental health challenges.
Qualifications
- Bilingual (ability to converse in French and English)
- Ability to respect and implement the alternative philosophy, namely the approach of mutual aid and members’ right to self-determination
- Willingness to learn and use a solutions-focused approach
- Warm, empathetic, and approachable demeanor
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, and reliability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team (staff, volunteers, and members)
- Experience in crisis management and conflict resolution
- Basic cooking skills
- Experience in mental health and/or housing services (a plus)
- Experience or interest in building management (a significant plus)
Responsibilities
Building Management
- Coordinate and supervise maintenance, repairs, and renovations for CAP
- Serve as a point of contact for CAP’s contractors and service providers
- Follow up on Logi-PAL’s building management with its property manager
- Monitor the overall condition, cleanliness, and safety of the buildings
- Ensure the prompt resolution of maintenance issues
Financial & Operational Management
- Collect rent and track CAP payments
- Basic financial tasks (deposits, purchases, bill payments, expense tracking, etc.) for CAP
- Follow up with Logi-PAL’s financial manager
Housing Administration & Residents Relations
- Receive, evaluate, and follow up on housing requests
- Maintain regular communication with residents regarding housing-related issues
- Conduct apartment inspections and enforce rules regarding apartment upkeep
Resident Support & Community Engagement
- Use a solution-focused approach to provide individualized support centered on autonomy, personal goals, and community involvement
- Assist the animal-assisted therapy program in supporting residents
- Encourage residents to participate in creating a respectful and healthy living environment
- Collaborate with residents’ treatment teams to maximize their well-being and independence
- Ensure the smooth operation of CAP (weekly resident meetings, assignment of individual tasks, etc.).
Collaboration and Organizational Participation
- Collaborate with housing advocacy organizations in accordance with the mandates of the board of directors and management
- Participate in internal meetings (weekly team meetings, housing committees, ad hoc committees, etc.)
- Provide occasional cover for other departments within Projet P.A.L., including facilitating activities at the community center
