The Canyon Meadows Community Association (CMCA) is looking to hire full time Building Maintenance Workers for a seasonal internship. A good fit for these roles would be motivated self-starters with the ability to work independently, and a desire to learn. They will conduct regular checks of the facility and its equipment for safety. They will develop a working knowledge of our tools and equipment (tools, tractor and implements, mechanical room) and they will identify and complete projects daily, weekly & monthly. These candidates will be responsible for grounds keeping, upkeep of our seasonal landscaping, and ensure indoor and outdoor facilities are ready for functions.
The Building Maintenance Workers are often the face of the organization while they work outside, helping with facility rentals, and maintaining our recreational spaces. They may be on the receiving end of member complaints or community concerns, and as such, will be coached in conflict resolution and customer service. The expectation is for the candidates to represent and promote our community in a positive and energetic way.
The successful applicants will be self-directed, and will embody the CMCA’s values of respect, accessibility, and belonging. To be successful, applicants will need to be able to communicate with staff and volunteers, to adapt to many different job tasks, and to use their time efficiently. The Building Maintenance Workers will be exposed to the challenges, opportunities and rewards that come with working in the non-profit sector. Some key points of the role include:
- Small repairs & maintenance to ensure the extended life of our facilities and amenities, such as repairing/replacing sports equipment, painting or staining indoor and outdoor features, adjusting doors, locks, windows, etc.
- Lawn & field maintenance, such as mowing the grass, weed whacking, applying fertilizer & weed control, maintaining our numerous shrub gardens that surround the halls.
- Assist with initiatives that improve the facility, research how to make the building more accessible, assist other staff with supervision when required, install signs for handicap parking, assembling storage shed.
- Assist with rental set up & tear down, assist with parties that book our movie-in-the-park equipment, battery powered Crazy Carts and XBox Stations.
The successful applicants will report directly to the Hall and General Managers and be provided with consistent and constructive training & direction. They can expect positive mentorship and encouragement to succeed in this role. Candidates are encouraged to take initiative and actively seek out ways of improving the organization and its practices.
