A1 Bus Ltd is a growing group transportation company with our office based in the Vernon area, servicing our customers throughout the Thompson Okanagan and more since 2008.
We are looking for a qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic or Automotive Technician/Casual Driver to join our team. Safety as a first priority, we are seeking a committed Heavy Duty Mechanic or Automotive Technician to work within our service team to ensure all busses are in good working order and operate safely for our customers and drivers. Currently A1 Bus has a fleet of over 100 busses. Though a large portion are based in Vernon and Kelowna, travel to other yards will sometimes be required. Some of the work will be done in one of our shops, but the majority of the work will be mobile.
A1 Bus Ltd operates a mixed fleet: full size bus models include Thomas & Bluebirds with Freightliner & International Chassis', Cummins and some Mercedes, while the smaller buses are Chevy and Fords with gas engines.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Diagnose, repair, estimate, overhaul and maintain a variety of buses and other vehicles to ensure all equipment is available, reliable and in good working order.
- Prepare buses for CVSE inspections.
- Work as part of an established mechanic team keeping the Lead Hand updated on your progress .
- Keep detailed and accurate electronic maintenance records and documentation.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area; maintain and repair shop facilities and equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate OR Automotive Technician Certificate with experience working on larger vehicles.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in a mechanic role required.
- Transportation industry experience preferred.
- Full set of mechanics tools
- Experience in a leadership role and team environment preferred.
- Valid driver's license. Class 5 minimum or Class 2 with air endorsement preferred. (Class 1 will be given preference.)
- Knowledge of the operating and repair of a large variety of vehicles (buses).
- Ability to work in conditions which are dirty, wet, noisy and greasy – to work outside in all types of weather is required.
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks to ensure efficient completion of multiple projects.
- Ability to communicate clearly with other mechanics and parts vendors so parts are ordered correctly and promptly and work is done in a coordinated fashion.
Pay will depend on experience & certification.
