As of August 31st, 2024, the Nicola Public Fixed Income team manages more than $1.6 billion in various mandates. The team is part of the Nicola Wealth Public Assets Group which manages over $4.0 billion in assets across both equity and fixed income mandates. Nicola Wealth, as a firm, manages over $16.1 billion of assets across public and private markets on behalf of its clients.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a commitment to excellence and experience in the management of public fixed income portfolios. As the Credit Analyst, you are primarily focused on Investment Grade and High Yield credit research. Your work will primarily be focused on analyzing specific credits though there will be exposure to portfolio construction and risk management for the broader portfolio. We work in a team-based environment and your role will be exposed to all aspects of the investment management process.
This role will be a hybrid working model based in Vancouver or Toronto.
- Performing in-depth research on corporate credits in the investment grade and high yield spaces, including analysis of financial statements as well as industry and economic trends.
- Demonstrating a good understanding of the risks of fixed income securities, including underlying debt terms and conditions.
- Participating in meetings with corporate issuers and industry analysts.
- Assisting in the preparation and presentation of materials for credit, sector, or topical reviews.
- Assisting with integrating new technologies to streamline the investment management process.
- Assisting in ad-hoc projects for the Public Fixed Income and broader Public Assets.
- Other relevant and related responsibilities, as assigned and as the needs of the organization change.
- 1-2 years related work experience, preferably in credit investing.
- A passion for credit investing and portfolio management.
- A proven track record of learning new skills in dynamic environments.
- Exposure to North American credit markets.
- An entrepreneurial approach demonstrated by being proactive and thriving in a high growth fast paced environment.
- A professional demeanor with the ability to build trust with our people and partners.
- Being collaborative and team focused.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills.
- Being calm and collaborative under pressure.
- Exposure to fixed income portfolio management and/or credit analysis is considered an asset.
- Undergraduate or Graduate degree.
- Proven credit due diligence and underwriting skills including research reports on specific companies and/or industries.
- Experience with fixed income instruments is considered an asset.
- Ability to function in a team environment.
- A CFA, CA, CPA, MBA, or CBV designation or enrollment is considered an asset.
- Willingness to work in either Toronto or Vancouver.
- Willingness to travel in North America.
- You are legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer.
This position comes with a base salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 plus a competitive performance bonus and participation in our profit-sharing program. Base salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
