The Position
The TRU School of Education seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer. The position will appeal to those with a love for the practice of teaching and for collaboration with practitioner communities. This role provides the opportunity to influence high quality teacher education through leading practicum coordination. In addition, for this teaching specialist there will be opportunity to teach courses in one or more of the following areas; curriculum, teaching and learning in a curricular area such as language arts and literacy, science, social studies, or physical education; foundations of education (history, philosophy); assessment in education; inclusive & special education; leadership in education and education counselling. Strong candidates will have teaching experience in K-12 and post-secondary settings. In addition, recent practicum supervision experience as a faculty mentor or teacher mentor is highly desirable. This is a position for those who seek to influence education through leadership roles within the School of Education and beyond. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2019. This position may have teaching responsibilities across the programs in the School of Education, predominantly in the undergraduate BEd programs. Bipartite positions entail teaching, service and the scholarship of teaching. It is expected that successful applicants will provide service to the School of Education, TRU, and the broader community. This service will involve support of Faculty and TRU initiatives through substantial committee work and other leadership opportunities.

  • A PhD, EdD or equivalent in a relevant field is preferred, with the minimum of a Master’s degree and five years’ experience required.
  • A minimum of one (1) degree in an area of Education is required;
  • Three (3) years of full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is strongly preferred.
  • Evidence of successful post-secondary teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a Faculty Mentor or Teacher Mentor in K-12 settings is preferred.
  • A strong record of scholarship in education is preferred.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
  • Based on our university’s commitment to promoting intercultural understanding and Indigenization as stated in TRU’s strategic plan, candidates must demonstrate the following: successful experience including Indigenous worldviews, perspectives, knowledge and teaching methods in education is required; proven skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect; evidence of teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula.
  • Proven experience in programs and practices that support diversity, inclusion and intercultural understanding between local, regional and global communities.
