Job Summary
Earthbound Stables is looking for a skilled Stable Hand to lead and work alongside barn and riding lesson staff providing quality care for 28 horses and various other livestock.
This is a working leadership role for an individual who enjoys the physical work required on a farm, while at the same time responding to challenges that can come up when tending to livestock and in working in the outdoor environment.
The successful candidate would be expected to follow and mentor junior staff with respect to barn routines, best practices and customer service.
This role is central to creating a safe, efficient, and enjoyable environment for both animals and visitors.
Duties
- Lead daily stable operations, including feeding, grooming, and exercising horses and livestock.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of stable staff to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
- Maintain farm machinery and equipment, performing routine inspections and repairs as needed.
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks such as moving feed bags, equipment, or livestock supplies.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed to protect animals, staff, and visitors.
- Monitor animal health and report any concerns to veterinary professionals promptly.
- Keep detailed records of animal care activities, maintenance logs, and safety checks.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with horses or livestock on a farm
- Mechanical knowledge related to farm machinery and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and perform manual tasks throughout the day.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to supervise a team effectively.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to animal handling and farm operations.
- Equine education or certification is an asset
- Must be comfortable working with children and youth
