Our organization is seeking a temporary Chemical Labratory Technician to provide after hours lab support in our Corner Brook office. This position will work in close collaboration with the Laboratory Supervisor to support mining and materials testing operations using X-Ray Spectroscopy techniques. This role is critical in ensuring accurate chemical characterization to support quality control, process optimization, and production decisions.
This position is expected to last until December 2026, with the possibility of extension. This position will be required to work outside of regular business hours, with the days and times being based on the preference of the selected candidate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare geological samples (limestone, dolomite, and related materials) for analysis using borate fusion techniques.
- Operate and maintain Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometers (EDX/EDS) to determine elemental composition.
- Interpret and validate analytical data, ensuring compliance with laboratory quality standards.
- Maintain detailed records of sample preparation, analytical results, and instrument performance.
- Follow laboratory safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures at all times.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the lab and contribute to process optimization.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have completed a recognized Chemistry, Geology, Materials Science or other relevant degree or diploma program from an accredited post-secondary institution. Applicants in their final year of studies from a recognized program may be considered. The successful applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Experience in the following areas would be considered an asset:
- Previous laboratory experience in mining, cement, or mineral processing industries
- Experience with X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS/XRF) and fusion preparation methods.
- Familiarity with handling carbonate rocks such as limestone and dolomite.
- Experience with sample preparation equipment (mills, presses, fusion furnaces)
