Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Safety & Compliance to lead our Health & Safety and Compliance functions across the organization. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an individual with strong transportation-industry experience, excellent regulatory knowledge, and a proven ability to build and maintain a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the company’s Safety & Compliance programs
- Monitor and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses
- Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee and Accident Review Committee
- Ensure compliance with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulations
- Maintain knowledge of USDOT and U.S. compliance requirements
- Oversee IFTA requirements and quarterly submissions
- Develop and implement Safety SOPs, policies, and procedures
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions
- Conduct site visits at various company terminals
- Lead and support internal audits
- Lead and oversee the company’s regional Safety Managers
- Monitor safety performance and ensure regional safety ratings remain within acceptable industry standards
- Review safety data, conduct risk assessments, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Work closely with management and operational teams to improve safety performance
- Investigate workplace injuries and provide guidance regarding appropriate safety procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve the company’s telematics and safety technology
- Prepare reports and provide recommendations to Senior Management
- Perform other duties as required by Senior Management
Qualifications & Experience:
- The ideal candidate must have Minimum 5 years of management experience within the transportation industry
- Proven experience as a Safety Manager or Safety/Compliance leader
- Strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
- Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations
- Experience with USDOT compliance is an asset
- Knowledge of IFTA requirements
- Strong knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop policies, procedures, and detailed reports
- A current AZ / Class 1 driver's licence, with a minimum of 5 years' experience
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred
- BSc/BA in Safety Management or a related field is an asset
- Valid qualification in Occupational Health & Safety preferred
