THE HOTEL:
Dual-branded in the East Village of Calgary’s Downtown, our 198 room Hilton Garden Inn and 122 suite Homewood Suites are adjacent to Central Library and one block from both studio Bell and the City Hall train station.
THE ROLE:
Cooks contribute to the overall success of the hotel by providing meals of high quality, taste and appearance to satisfy guests, maximizing food revenues and achieving exceptional service results.

KEY ACTIVITIES:
The duties and responsibilities for the 1st Cook include, but are not limited to the following:
· Plans and prepares meals and menus for the food outlets and catered events.
· Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction. Executes countermeasures in the production in case of customer complaints
· Responsible for the kitchen operation in the absence of the Executive Chef and Sous Chef.
· Assist in training of new employees and development of existing employees
· Inventory and maintain food part stocks and communicate order needs to the Sous Chef / Chef.
· Assist in ordering and receiving product from suppliers and record any deficiencies.
· Maintain product and working area in accordance with provincial health standards, example temperature logs.
· Assist with and ensure opening and closing duties are completed to standard by all kitchen team members.
· Ensure all guests receive prompt attention, providing value-added service by doing whatever is reasonable and possible to exceed guest expectations.
· Assist in customer / guest service scores / success through driving programs such as table checks, service recovery, high quality food taste / presentation.
· Ensures kitchen is clean and sanitary and in compliance with all federal, provincial and local laws, including OSHA, ESA and Human Rights.
· Follow hotel policies in relation to key control, and the security of hotel property, including equipment, food, and tools and utensils.
· Communicate with MOD and co-workers regarding product or service deficiencies, equipment, safety problems, etc.
· Adhere to all policies and procedures in place at the hotel and attend work on time as scheduled.
· Behave in a professional and honest manner.
· Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and standards. Ensure good safety practices of employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures.
COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING:
· Minimum 5 years of line cooking and catering experience required.
· Must be able to delegate responsibilities, organize projects, establish priorities, and motivate team.
· Open Availability to work shifts (weekends, weekdays, mornings, evenings and holidays)
· Completion of High School, GED or equivalent required, completion of culinary program diploma preferred
· Excellent time management, organization, attention to detail and initiative.
· Ability to multi-task and work under heavy pressure / stress during busy times.
· Clear verbal communication skills.
· Special consideration will be given to those who exhibit exemplary performance.
· Job requires consistent standing, and considerable walking, frequent and repetitive lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, pushing and twisting.
