Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Secretary to support our legal team. This firm is like a family - we are looking for someone to start part-time, eventually going into a full-time role when our associate moves in December. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, excellent research abilities, and a solid understanding of legal procedures. This role involves managing case files, preparing legal documents, and ensuring smooth communication within the firm. The Legal Secretary will play a vital role in maintaining efficiency and accuracy in all legal operations. We are seeking someone to join the family that is incredibly organized, but can bounce from task to task.
Responsibilities
- Draft, proofread, and review legal documents, correspondence, and filings with precision and attention to detail
- Conduct legal research using LexisNexis and other resources to support attorneys' cases
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case information and client details
- Assist with project management tasks related to ongoing cases or firm initiatives
- Schedule appointments, interviews, and court dates; coordinate meetings for attorneys
- Handle phone inquiries with professional phone etiquette and direct calls appropriately
- Organize and file legal documents systematically to ensure easy retrieval and compliance with firm policies
- Support attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and client meetings by providing necessary documentation
- Perform clerical tasks such as copying, scanning, mailing, and maintaining office supplies
Experience
- Proven administrative experience in a legal environment or law firm setting preferred
- organizational skills to handle multiple priorities efficiently
- Strong proofreading, writing skills, and legal drafting abilities essential for preparing accurate documents
- Excellent research skills combined with attention to detail for effective case support
- Demonstrated ability to manage filing systems, data entry tasks, and clerical responsibilities effectively
- Prior experience conducting interviews or assisting with client interactions is a plus
- Knowledge of legal procedures, court filing processes, and professional phone etiquette is preferred
Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
