TriSon Farms is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer to support the procurement and supply of fresh produce, packaging materials, and operational supplies.
This role is responsible for managing supplier relationships, monitoring inventory levels, supporting cost-control initiatives, and ensuring the timely availability of products to meet customer demand.
Working closely with Sales, Operations, Growers, Logistics, and Inventory Control teams, the Buyer will help balance supply and demand, coordinate product sourcing, maintain inventory accuracy, and support profitable decision-making in a fast-paced, perishable-food environment.
Responsibilities
- Source and evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and delivery performance.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, terms, and conditions with vendors.
- Issue purchase orders and track order fulfillment.
- Monitor inventory levels and forecast purchasing requirements based on sales demand and production schedules.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Quality Control, Logistics, and Warehouse teams to understand product requirements and customer commitments.
- Maintain strong supplier and grower relationships while resolving delivery, quality, pricing, and service issues.
- Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply risks.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, food safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, contracts, grower agreements, and procurement documentation.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, supply chain efficiencies, and process improvements.
- Develop and maintain grower production plans to ensure adequate supply throughout the season.
- Conduct regular communication with growers regarding planting schedules, harvest projections, crop development, and expected yields.
- Monitor daily and weekly crop availability reports and communicate supply changes to internal stakeholders.
- Work proactively with growers to secure product for promotional programs, seasonal commitments, and customer contracts.
- Coordinate with Quality Control teams regarding product specifications, inspections, quality concerns, and corrective actions.
- Manage rejected loads, quality claims, shortages, and substitutions with growers and suppliers.
- Assist in forecasting seasonal volumes and procurement strategies to support company sales goals.
- Track grower performance metrics including quality, service levels, fulfillment rates, and food safety compliance.
- Participate in grower visits, field inspections, and facility audits as required.
- Support new grower development and supplier qualification initiatives.
- Ensure procurement coverage for weekends, holidays, and peak production periods as required.
- Maintain awareness of industry developments, greenhouse production trends, commodity markets, and competitive supply conditions.
- Provide timely updates to the Procurement Manager regarding supply concerns, market conditions, and potential risks to customer programs.
- Assist with inventory rotation strategies and movement of aging inventory to minimize shrink and waste.
- Support cross-functional projects related to procurement, supply chain optimization, and business growth initiatives.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in supply chain, agriculture, or a related field
- Post-secondary education in business, supply chain, or agriculture is an asset
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and purchasing systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
