Overview
Comco Canada Ltd. is seeking a motivated Petroleum Mechanic Helper to join our team in supporting maintenance and repair operations within the oil & gas industry. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with heavy equipment and mechanical systems in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Prior experience in construction, heavy lifting, having a PMH certification is an asset but not required.
A Petroleum Mechanic Helper (or Apprentice) learns to install, service, and repair petroleum storage, dispensing, and leak detection systems at retail, industrial and commercial fuel sites. Under the supervision of a licensed mechanic, trainees gain hands-on experience while completing the required practical hours to achieve trade certification.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Hands-on Assistance: Shadow and assist lead mechanics with the installation, removal, and repair of underground and aboveground storage tanks and piping.
- Equipment Maintenance: Service and maintain fuel dispensers, submersible pumps, and bulk handling equipment.
- Leak Detection: Help repair, calibrate, and maintain environmental monitoring and leak detection systems.
- Documentation: Learn to accurately complete daily write-ups, service and inspection reports, and compliance forms.
- Site Operations: Manage warehouse and parts inventory, deliver parts to job sites, and assist with site cleanup.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to environmental regulations (such as the Liquid Fuels Handling Code) and company health and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Mechanical Aptitude: A strong desire to solve mechanical/electrical problems and learn on the job.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record (often requiring a clean driver's abstract).
- Certification: Willingness to obtain your PMH Certification essential.
- Licensing (Ontario Specific): In Ontario, trainees typically start by pursuing the Petroleum Mechanic Helper (PMH) license through OPCA.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift heavy objects, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and travel to multiple job sites.
Comco Canada Ltd. works a 4 day work week, Monday to Thursday, 7am - 6pm.
