Job Summary: The Maintenance Support Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain a food production and facility equipment according to safe, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes. Assist in warehouse duties as needed driving forklift, assist in quarterly and monthly cleaning of building, warehouse & coolers.
This role will require an appreciation of the required standards in a Food Manufacturing environment, respecting all quality risk management policies, diligently complying with required industry, and Health & Safety standards. Experience preferred but not essential as a full orientation will be given.
FUNCTIONAL AREA: Operations
LOCATION: Edmonton, Alberta
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Leader
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, building code and health and safety issues by applying knowledge of legislation related to these areas
- Perform diversified duties to install and maintain production equipment and the site facility’s equipment
- Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities, mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production equipment, read and interpret equipment manuals, PLC’s, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
- Work with maintenance contractors on specified projects
- Liaise with suppliers, maintenance contractors and operations employees on day-to-day facility maintenance activities
- Follow and maintain preventative and corrective maintenance schedules for equipment while always striving for ways to improve processes; perform all maintenance to ensure asset integrity and value of all systems
- Perform annual inspection of all sites and evaluate the condition of all building components
- Partner with departmental leaders to ensure facilities and service provisions anticipate and meet or exceed requirements
- Complete all necessary reports and records related to the work done and as required, to comply with industry regulations and internal quality risk management programs
- Supply critical information to the Production Team on a per-need basis and work with the production and planning teams to schedule repairs
- Experienced in operating a variety of hand and power tools
- Perform all other duties as assigned or required
- Experience driving forklift (training will be provided)
- Use of manlift for PM’s, breakdowns, & monthly cleaning of the warehouse
Physical Demands / Working Conditions:
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Possess good manual dexterity
- Work regular 40 hour week
- Shift patterns could vary, with adequate notice in advance of any change
- Walk, stand, and bend
- General hazards as associated with the trades
- Overtime may be required to fulfill maintenance duties outside of production hours
- Use of power equipment on a regular basis.
- Work in hot/cold environments on a regular basis but not limited to coolers & freezers
Position Requirements:
- Post-secondary education, certification or equivalent experience preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience in equipment maintenance and in a facility management environment, preferably from a food manufacturing background with knowledge of GMP’s (good manufacturing practices)
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of related operating systems, ideally an understanding of HVAC, refrigeration/chilling and various food manufacturing processes are all assets.
- Assist in warehouse driving forklift, emptying outside garbage bins, monthly/quarterly cleaning etc
- Assist with set-up of equipment and areas for next days production.
- Able to easily understand and follow written and/or oral instruction
- Ability to appreciate, and wear appropriate PPE for required task
- Able to manage time effectively, self-motivated working alone or as part of a cross functional team
- Demonstrate high degree of accuracy and keen attention to detail
- Good communication skills, able to respond appropriately in sensitive situations with a calm and steady demeanor
- Be proactive in determining priorities in regard to breakdowns, PM’s and training.

Pay: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
