Job Description Summary:
Icron Technologies, a subsidiary of Maxim Integrated, is seeking a Co-Op intern to support its USB business line in our Burnaby office. Icron is a growing tech company specializing in the design and production of extended range USB connectivity solutions. Icron's patented ExtremeUSB technology allows for USB device extension well beyond the traditional five-meter USB distance limitation using transmission mediums such as CAT5, fibre optic cable, power lines and various wireless radio platforms. Due to the ubiquitous nature of USB, our solutions are installed in a wide variety of markets and applications worldwide including the medical, industrial, military, pro A/V, home automation, and home media extension markets.
This position offers a wide variety of experiences for co-ops as they assist in the development of new products from conception, through development, testing and final production. Primary tasks will revolve around the System Verification Test lab.
This is also a great position to start at Icron and find future co-op terms within our hardware and firmware development teams. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about technology and hardware design, have the ability to learn quickly, have proven initiative, strong problem-solving skills, and be able to prioritize and excel in a fast past multi-faceted work environment.
Responsibilities and Duties include but not limited to:
Perform system level and hardware level verification on new products; this includes using a wide variety of USB and video technologies, peripherals, gadgets, etc. (including HDTV applications, Xbox 360, USB webcams, hard drives, gaming controllers and interface devices, basically anything with a USB port on it.)
Prototype modifications to existing products.
Hardware debug and testing
Research new technologies, products and standards for use in R&D.
Create automation test system.
Work with all different groups within Icron including hardware design, software design, sales & marketing, and production.
Must be able to do or have prior experience with the following:
System level test and verification
Hardware design practices
Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, OS X, Linux operating systems
Computer and A/V Peripherals
USB 2.0 / 3.0 operation
Video transmission/compression standards
PC hardware maintenance and assembly
Technical report writing
Lab equipment usage (Oscilloscopes, Protocol Analyzers, etc.)
