TERRA Vaughan is looking for a physically fit individual to fill their Receiving Department Manager role. Note that this is not a seasonal position - it is a permanent, full time role.
This role is unique to garden centre life and will have you overseeing “the heavy jobs”, such as unloading trucks, operating a forklift and other equipment, coordinating and completing deliveries, overseeing outdoor soils and pick-up lane, assisting customers with heavy items and carry outs, overseeing an doing delivieries, and keeping our warehouse and grounds organized and tidy. Your team will be comprised of 5-10 seasonal staff in peak season and you will work closely with all other Department Managers to allocate resources and ensure smooth store operations for our customers. When you come on board, we will be working towards mastery of the following items:
-Monitoring sales activities in categories such as soils and outdoor pottery to ensure sales opportunities are maximized and that customers receive excellent service and quality goods; ensuring your team is aligned in this goal.
-Providing excellent internal and external customer service and serving as a role model to other team members.
-Managing receipt of product and all necessary documentation, keeping our warehouse safe and organized, and assisting in facility maintenance.
-Overseeing customer deliveries, ensuring accuracy and serving as a brand embassader.
-Interviewing, training, supervising, and developing employees.
-Ensuring team members are trained in product knowledge, product features and benefits, and related products to meet all of our customer needs and inquiries; ensuring team members have beginner knowledge of products and services offered in other departments.
-Managing product flow by anticipating need, ordering products accordingly, and managing stock.
-Full Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence and forklift experience.
-Physically capable of:
- Lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; able to lift above shoulder height repeatedly
- Bending, crouching, kneeling repeatedly
- Capable of being on your feet for extended periods on concrete floors and in safety footwear
- We aren’t kidding about this!
-Exceptional organizational skills; ability to effectively plan physical space, time, and labour.
-Sales and customer-service focus in fast paced/high volume setting; ability to meet the needs of several customers at once.
-Proven supervising experience in a customer focused environment.
-Retail experience is preferred.
-Uniform required. Must have Green Patch CSA approved safety footwear.
