A. PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Community Energy Champion, under the direction of the Public Works Manager, will act as an energy leader for the community, assist in development and implementation of the Community Energy Plan, conduct energy audits, implement energy-saving upgrades and retrofit programs in the community that will lower community energy use and utility bills.

B. QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory Requirements

The Community Energy Champion shall possess:

  • Degree in Engineering, Planning, Environmental Science, Building Science or Energy Engineering OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Broad understanding of energy usage, energy conservation, alternative energy resources and climate change issues.
  • Experience in conducting energy audits is considered an asset
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong analytical, research and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in working with a community is considered an asset
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and administer multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using energy audit software programs such as EMAT is considered a definite asset
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Working at heights certification is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of energy-saving upgrades and rebate programs
  • Knowledge of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek culture and traditions

C. DUTIES

  • Assist in completion and implementation of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Community Energy Plan
  • Identify and deliver applicable energy-saving programs in the community
  • Develop an inventory of community energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Maximise community engagement in energy-saving programs
  • Research opportunities for meeting community energy demands from renewable energy resources
  • Collaborate with community and the utility service providers to develop a target for community energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Implement the Community Energy Plan in every aspect to increase local business and employment
  • Identify, promote and implement methods to conserve energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Identify , promote and implement applicable energy-saving upgrades and retrofit programs in Community
  • Complete other duties, as assigned

Administration

  • Prepare monthly and annual program statistics, quarterly activity reports and annual report for submission to Public Works Manager and Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), as required
  • Develop yearly work plan and budget submissions
  • Prepare reports and research papers for consideration and presentation by the department team when required
  • Prepare written documents including reports and evaluations as specified by project objectives

Coordination and Consultation

  • Coordinate with community members and community building owners for home visits for energy audits
  • Coordinate with IESO and other organizations to respond to general utility customer service inquiries and promote other energy rebate offers and services to community members
  • Assist department team in conducting information sessions to educate community members on energy-saving programs

Public Relations

  • Greet visitors with respect and in a friendly manner
  • Answer telephone and electronic inquiries
  • Participate in information gathering as directed by Public Works Manager or by department team
