We are seeking an Investment Analyst to join our Credit Funds business in Toronto. You will have a key role in analyzing potential new credit fund investment opportunities, supporting the presentation and execution of new initiatives and monitoring and managing existing fund investments. Who you'll work with
Ontario Teachers’ Credit Group consists of a diverse team of investment professionals, based in Toronto and London, investing directly and through funds in all areas of the global credit markets – public and private, performing and distressed. The mandate of the group’s Credit Funds business is to produce strong risk-adjusted returns by investing with fund managers in various credit-related strategies globally, including private lending, specialty finance, special situations and distressed.
As a member of the Credit Funds business, you will be interacting and working with your teammates on the direct credit side as well as other teams in Capital Markets, leveraging the expertise of high performing investment professionals.
What you'll do
Conduct investment analysis to support decision-making relating to new credit fund investments, including performance analysis (e.g. public market equivalent analysis, manager performance vs. peer sets, etc.)
Support the due diligence of new fund managers and conduct research to support the evaluation of potential investment opportunities
Beta and correlation analysis, portfolio cash flow modelling and fee modelling
Support the preparation of investment approval materials and ad hoc reports, presentations, analyses and projects
Attend meetings with existing and prospective credit managers
Accurately monitor and report on key drivers of risk/exposure and profit/loss across individual fund managers, strategies and the overall Credit Funds portfolio
Maintain up-to-date beta estimates and portfolio positioning and conduct quarterly cash flow forecasting
Support Risk in ensuring group risk is accurately measured, risk models are accurately developed and implemented in a timely manner
Take ownership for analytical dashboards and reporting using PowerBI
Coordinate and work closely with OTPP Finance, Operations, Risk and IT on the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of reporting and analytical tools and processes
Develop analytics, drive meaningful insights and make recommendations based on the data
What you'll need
Undergraduate/post-graduate degree with excellent academic performance in finance or business administration or a related technical subject area (e.g. economics, business, engineering)
At least 1 year of relevant experience at an investment bank, asset manager, credit fund, private equity fund, hedge fund or fund-of-funds
Strong understanding of fundamental financial, investment and valuation concepts (e.g. basic financial accounting, capital structure, valuation methodologies, etc.). Knowledge of credit instruments and related investment strategies would be considered advantageous
Very strong financial modelling and analytical skills
Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, some familiarity with Bloomberg
Highly self-motivated individual - naturally inquisitive self-starter with a desire to learn
Very good written and oral communication skills
