Job Summary I own an independent used vehicle dealership in Calgary and need an experienced bookkeeping/accounting professional to help with reconstructing business records.
I'm looking for someone who:
Has experience with Alberta auto dealerships.Understands GST filings, corporate tax preparation, and dealership accounting.
- Can tell me exactly what legitimate documents and invoices I need to gather.
- Can organize bank statements, vehicle purchases, sales, repairs, commissions, floorplan/loan interest, licensing, insurance, and other expenses.
- Is comfortable bringing a business up to date after several years of incomplete bookkeeping.
This could lead to ongoing monthly bookkeeping after the cleanup.
Please include your automotive accounting experience and references.
Responsibilities
- Review and reconstruct approximately three years of business financial records.
- Organize and reconcile business bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and financing.
- Prepare and reconcile GST returns and ensure compliance with CRA requirements.
- Organize all vehicle purchase and sale documentation, including bills of sale, wholesale purchases, auction purchases, trade-ins, and vehicle inventory records.
- Review dealership expenses and identify all legitimate deductible business expenses.
- Advise on the documentation and supporting invoices required to maximize legitimate tax deductions.
- Reconcile vehicle inventory, cost of goods sold, and gross profit.
- Prepare accurate bookkeeping records for year-end financial statements and corporate tax filings.
- Work directly with my accountant (or prepare everything required for my accountant) to complete outstanding corporate tax returns.
- Establish organized bookkeeping systems and processes for ongoing monthly record keeping.
- Ensure compliance with CRA and Alberta regulatory requirements for an independent automotive dealership.
- Recommend improvements to record-keeping procedures to simplify future tax filings.
Experience
- The ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, proven experience working with independent used vehicle dealerships, automotive retailers, or dealership accounting departments.
- Extensive knowledge of GST/HST/PST reporting and corporate bookkeeping requirements.
- Experience reconstructing multiple years of incomplete bookkeeping and preparing businesses for year-end tax filings.
- Strong understanding of vehicle inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and dealership financial reporting.
- Experience reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, loans, floorplan financing, and other dealership financial records.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (or similar accounting software) and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Assets:
- Previous experience working with automotive dealerships in Alberta.
- Familiarity with AMVIC requirements and dealership operations.
- Experience communicating with accountants and the CRA regarding GST or tax matters.
- Experience implementing bookkeeping systems and internal controls for growing businesses.
Pay: $15.00-$20.00 per hour
