Overview of role:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Compensation you will provide sound compensation and total rewards business partnership in support of WestJet's pay philosophy and rewards strategy. As a collaborative partner to People Relations, senior business leaders, recruiters, and People Services teams you will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, execution, education, and communication of WestJet’s compensation programs and initiatives.
You will play an integral role in building the foundation for critical compensation structures and processes. As a principal owner of compensation programs, you will be the trusted partner and expert on all-things compensation for your client groups (business units).
What you will do:
- Be the trusted compensation expert for your client groups and support the design and administration of base pay, variable/incentive programs, step-structure and union negotiated pay.
- Support the implementation of the Federal Pay Equity Act within the organization, including providing subject matter expertise to ensure successful completion and compliance.
- Prepare models, forecasts, costings, and financial analyses to assess alternatives and provide recommendations to senior leaders and the executive team.
- Develop engaging communication materials and facilitate information sessions for leaders, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the organization's total compensation philosophy and practices.
- Become the market expert by developing and maintaining an external network to keep abreast of compensation trends and best practices in the North American airline industry and in general, with a focus on the airline industry.
- Assist in the analysis, implementation, communication and administration of all compensation programs and policies, for other team member client groups.
- Assess and continually improve compensation related processes to ensure consistent interpretation and administration of compensation programs.
- Stay informed of legislative requirements that affect compensation policies and develop action plans to ensure compliance and implementation (i.e., collective agreement implementation).
- Participate in and support project work which may involve the development or re-design of compensation programs to support WestJet's growth plans or meet governance requirements.
What you need to have:
- A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (Human Resources, Finance, or Commerce).
- At least three to five years of direct experience consulting or business partnering on compensation programs in a large, multi-faceted organization. Experience with both privately held and publicly traded enterprises, along with respective compensation elements pertaining to each, is preferred.
- Experience with labour bargaining and operationalizing associated collective agreements from a total rewards perspective.
- Experience with administration of savings programs (i.e., Group RRSP/TFSAs and Pensions) is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated experience in program administration, communication, and implementation of compensation structures.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a proven track record in completing complex data analysis and transforming it into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
- Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment with great attention to detail.
- Well-developed communication skills along with tact and diplomacy to deal with sensitive matters.
- Exceptional professional acumen.
- Dedicated team player, highly organized, ability to take initiative and be independent.
- Highly advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Hold or working towards a CCP designation is an asset.
