Job Summary
Reporting to the Employee Relations Consultant, the Human Resources Business Partner will act as a trusted advisor and first point of contact within Central Human Resources to work effectively with administrators and Leaders at the University, and with other HR practitioners to provide full-service human resources support within assigned departments.

Key Responsibilities
Provide guidance and support to assigned departments on a variety of employee relations matters, such as managing performance, behavior, sick leave and other attendance concerns.
Advise managers in drafting correspondence from coaching counselling letters to disciplinary letters and advice on next steps in managing employees, while ensuring collective agreements, handbook rules are not being violated.
Provide ongoing HR advising services to employees and leaders within assigned departments on HR programs, practices, policies, legislation, and regulatory requirements including interpretation of policy, collective agreement interpretation, identification of risk, impact to the business and recommended solutions.
Provide thoughtful and effective coaching to leaders and support leaders within assigned departments on developing short- and longer-term people strategies.
In an advisory capacity, provide support to assigned departments on talent management activity, including succession planning, assessing candidates, and identification of university-wide talent.
Undertake special projects as assigned in relation to achieving HR strategic goals within assigned departments.

Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a field such as business administration or public administration, plus approximately three to five years’ related human resource experience, preferably in a unionized environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Human resource management certificate or equivalent preferred. The ability to professionally manage and deliver priorities in a client focused environment with an appreciation and understanding of diversity and inclusivity is essential. The capacity to build effective working relationships and collaborate with individuals or groups in an advising capacity is critical. Demonstrated analytical skills and judgement is key, along with adaptive and effective written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and problem-solving skills are essential.
