Position Summary
The Wheelchair Builder is responsible for assembling, configuring, and inspecting manual and power wheelchairs to ensure they meet manufacturer specifications, customer requirements and quality standards. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and a commitment to providing safe, reliable mobility equipment for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble manual and power wheelchairs according to manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
- Customize wheelchairs by installing specialized seating, positioning systems, armrests, footrests, cushions, and accessories based on client prescriptions and work orders.
- Perform quality inspections to verify proper assembly, functionality, and safety before equipment is delivered.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during the assembly process.
- Conduct functional testing of brakes, motors, batteries, joystick controls and other components on power mobility devices.
- Maintain accurate records of completed builds, serial numbers, inspections and repairs.
- Ensure all equipment complies with company quality standards and applicable safety regulations.
- Keep the work area clean, organized and stocked with necessary tools and parts.
- Collaborate with customer service, sales, and clinical staff to ensure equipment is built to meet individual customer needs.
- Assist with repairs, refurbishments, preventative maintenance, and warranty work as required.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience assembling medical equipment, mobility devices, bicycles, automotive components, or similar mechanical products is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand and power tools safely.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, assembly instructions, and technical manuals.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with manual and power wheelchairs.
- Familiarity with rehabilitation and mobility equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in power mobility devices.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management.
Working Conditions
- Warehouse or service centre environment.
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and use of hand and power tools.
- Exposure to mechanical and electrical components while following established safety procedures.
Pay: From $24.00 per hour
