Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer on behalf of one of British Columbia's leading utility organizations. This is an opportunity to work on large-scale transmission infrastructure that supports the province's growing energy needs while contributing to the modernization and reliability of the electrical grid.
You'll play a key role in delivering projects involving 60kV–500kV transmission systems, working across the full project lifecycle—from planning and detailed design through construction support and commissioning. If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, this is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact.
- Design overhead transmission lines and underground cable systems for high-voltage transmission projects (60kV–500kV).
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, design packages, and cost estimates.
- Perform technical studies related to electrical clearances, grounding, lightning protection, EMF, switching, transient overvoltages, ampacity, and related transmission engineering analyses.
- Provide engineering support during construction, conduct field reviews, and ensure designs are implemented safely and accurately.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and other engineering disciplines to deliver successful projects.
- Review engineering designs and provide technical guidance while managing assigned design scope, schedules, and budgets.
- Support projects through planning, design, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- P.Eng. designation (or eligibility for registration with Engineers & Geoscientists BC).
- Ability to work under a Permit to Practice (P2P).
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- 6–10 years of progressive engineering experience with a focus on transmission lines, substations, or protection & control.
- Designing overhead transmission lines and underground cable systems within a utility environment.
- Preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
- CAD platforms and industry-standard engineering software.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Previous electric utility experience.
- Experience with transmission line, telecommunications, or protection & control projects.
- Site experience supporting substations, hydroelectric facilities, or transmission line construction.
- Familiarity with utility engineering standards, project delivery practices, and tools such as EMTP, AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, or similar engineering software.
- Work on critical infrastructure projects that power communities across British Columbia.
- Contribute to technically challenging projects involving complex high-voltage transmission systems.
- Collaborate with experienced engineering professionals across multiple disciplines.
- Join a stable, long-term opportunity with one of BC's leading utility organizations, offering meaningful work, technical growth, and exposure to the complete engineering lifecycle.
If you're looking to take the next step in your transmission engineering career and want to work on meaningful infrastructure projects that help shape the future of BC's power system, we'd love to hear from you.
