The Engineering Technologist I in Neighbourhoods Planning and Design with the Building Great Neighbourhoods branch supports the preparation of concept, preliminary, tender and construction drawings for Neighbourhood Renewal program related projects. This position is required to perform low to moderate complexity technical drafting and design relating to drawing preparation.
What will you do?
- Develop a complete understanding of the projects by meeting with the supervisor, the project team and key individuals / stakeholders associated with the projects
- Provide drafting support using AutoCAD/Civil 3D to Engineering Technologists and Engineers for all stages of roadway design projects
- Compile utility information, assist Project Managers in quantity take-off, and conduct field reviews as required
- Process field survey data and prepare baselines
- Prepare plans and grade sheets for renewal projects such as overlays, alleys, and for as-builts
- Prepare maps and plans for public meetings
- Determine land requirements for road right-of-way
- Prepare pipeline/railway/environmental crossing plans
- Review land circulation and utility line assignment circulations
- Record drawing control (document final drawings and plans)
- Perform all work in accordance with the Department's Occupational Health & Safety Program and Enviso - Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
- Participate in team meetings
- Assist other staff with plotting/printing/scanning
- Convert or translate files into other file formats
- General drafting support / plan preparation, as required
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- A completed 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Drafting Technology from a recognized educational institution
- Must be eligible for membership with ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or at minimum an Engineering Technologist in Training (E.T.T). Those with an E.T.T. designation will be considered at Opportunity Concept (OC) level
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD & Civil 3D
- Knowledgeable of the City of Edmonton's Complete Streets Design and Construction standards and other industry accepted design guidelines such as T.A.C. (Transportation Association of Canada)
- Proficiency with Google Applications (Gmail, Drives, Documents, Sheets, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) and must arrange own transportation

Work Environment:
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
