Child Development Specialist

Primary Duties:

Responsible for providing help to First Nation children with a developmental delay or disability to enhance performance in their environment while at school, home, or within the community.

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments relative to the development and psychological status of the child
  • Provides direct therapy to the child and devises therapy plans that is best suited to the child's needs
  • Provides capacity strengthening for the community teams and parents
  • Maintains regular contact with families
  • Manages caseloads of all assigned families
  • Keeps records of contracts, case histories and all pertinent data
  • Participates in and accepts supervision /feedback from the Keewaytinook Okimakanak Health Director


  • Graduate from a post-secondary institution with a Master's Degree in Social Work or Child Psychology or another relevant discipline
  • Must be sensitive to the cultural traditions of the Keewaytinook Okimakanak people
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Experience working with First Nation communities
  • Proven leadership abilities, including accountability and work-habits
  • Experience and skills working in a political environment
  • Experience in report writing
  • Experience in collecting and reporting statistics
  • Knowledge of the complex multi-layered structure of health and social programs targeted to children with developmental delays or disabilities and their families
