Guest Relations Customer Service Representatives work at our front gates and provide both the first and the last impression that a visitor receives at the Zoo. They are responsible for crowd and line management, executing sales, access control, concierge desk duties and call centre assistance during high volume periods. As a Guest Relations Customer Service Representative, you will rotate through specific indoor and outdoor workstations when applicable.

Contract Details:
Start Date: November 2, 2024
End Date: January 5, 2025
Hours: Minimum 24 hours per week
What you will do:
-
Greet and engage guests at workstations located throughout the Zoo; aid with directions, questions and necessary messaging

Be comfortable with fast paced environment with constant change to adapt to business needs; ability to multi-task on high attendance days

Describe, upsell, and process all sales transactions for day admissions, memberships, Sunday brunch and special events with a focus on meeting/exceeding monthly sales targets

Operate a POS system, access control scanners

Assist guests with the paid parking system on Alberta Plaza
-
Provide line management on Alberta Plaza, in the tunnel, and at the turnstiles using a voice amplifier; ensuring guests comply with Zoo policies
-
Assist a specialized team with meeting and organizing spring/summer school bus arrivals, safely guiding 2500+ students daily through the tunnel onto zoo grounds
-
Daily set up/take down of signage, stanchions, barricades and scanning desks; and other opening/closing duties as required

Ensure work area is clean, tidy and sanitized including all desk equipment, counter tops, staff kitchen, bases of stanchions, signage and all other high touch zones

Comply with the Zoo’s health and safety program

Other duties as required
What you will bring:

Previous cash handling experience and point of sale experience
-
Ability to reconcile and balance at the end of each shift
-
Must be confident working alone and in a team environment
-
Can multi-task and adapt quickly in a high paced environment
-
Great customer service and problem-solving skills including the ability to navigate through difficult situations

Some computer knowledge is required

Flexibility and reliability for short notice changes to shifts

Responsible and mature work ethic

Prompt and invested in seasonal work

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working Conditions:

Working indoors and outdoors

Prolonged sitting, standing and walking throughout every shift

Schedule will include weekdays and weekends with some early morning and evening hours when applicable

Some light lifting is required to setup and take down signage, stanchions, barricades, and scanning desks

Direct and constant interaction with Zoo visitors
The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the Zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions.
