The opportunity:
Postmedia is seeking an Executive Producer to lead our digital travel coverage. It’s an opportunity for the right candidate to establish the direction and voice for all content on our new home for travel, Canada.com. The successful candidate will be tasked with growing our national digital audience through high-quality multimedia travel content informed by audience data and trends, with the goal of increasing audience and monetization opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Establish an editorial vision and style for Postmedia’s travel content backed by audience trends and SEO data
- Manage the creation of original travel content produced by freelance content creators from around the world to be published on Canada.com and syndicated throughout the Postmedia Network
- Maintain a travel editorial calendar
- Copy edit all content,optimizing it for SEO, and source images where required
- Produce compelling social media posts to promote content on Canada.com
- Write and publish the weekly Travel Time e-mail newsletter
- Curate travel stories from wire services and other contributors
- Review analytics of on-network content, social media and newsletters and optimize performance
- Support Postmedia’s sales organization by actively proposing and delivering on directed editorial (paid content) opportunities
- Leverage affiliate marketing opportunities through the Travel Essentials channel
- Liaise with tourism agencies and organizations to secure great opportunities for our content creators
- Explore new opportunities to grow Canada.com’s audience
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of experience as an assigning editor or similar role in a digital newsroom environment
- Extensive experience in ideating and producing high-quality travel content
- The ability to oversee and publish 40-50 pieces of content per month (a mix of curated and original content)
- Access to a network of freelance travel content creators, including writers, videographers and photographers
- Strong copy editing skills and knowledge of CP Style
- A demonstrated knowledge of best practices in search engine optimization for published content to drive traffic and build an audience from search
- The ability to research SEO data and trends to generate topics and story ideas
- The ability to analyze content performance metrics and incorporate learnings into overall strategies and best practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of social media to promote content and social media performance metrics
- Experience working with interactive content formats such as quizzes, carousels and games
- Experience with commercial content (directed editorial, affiliate) and liaising with sales teams to leverage paid content opportunities
- Experience working with freelance photographers, videographers and interactive content designers
