As our new Applications Scientist for Lab Automation you will be taking on a dynamic role that will require flexibility, inventiveness, and initiative.
The Applications Scientist conceptualizes automation systems for Laboratory Automation’s customers utilizing the latest Thermo Scientific and 3rd party products. Will engage with customers in conversations in order to understand the application and technical automation requirements. You will act as a liaison between the technical groups in the factory (Integration, Software, Engineering, R&D) and the global sales channels. The Applications Scientist generates end user quotations, system proposal content, throughput analysis, system layouts, and any other accompanying documentation required to satisfy the customer’s requirements.
The primary responsibilities of the role include:
Prepare system layouts and quotations ensuring technical accuracy
Prepare cost/margin estimations
Prepare other accompanying documentation as necessary such as throughput analysis, system proposal documents, workflow documents, reach analysis, etc.
Provide demonstrations of the Thermo Fisher Scientific LA product line to customers and employees
Provide advice and support to management on applications and technical issues
Participate in the development and testing of new products and identifying potential target markets.
Attend “Kick off” and “Close-out” project meetings in order to handoff and gather feedback on purchased systems.
Works with Integration team members to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and that systems are built to specifications.
Attend and/or participate relevant trade shows and meetings.
Read relevant journals and publications to keep current with developments in the fields that utilize laboratory automation.
Provide feedback on common customer issues/comments/suggestions to product managers and engineering.

This will be a full-time position based out of our Burlington office, with hours from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, plus occasional travel to meet with our partners and end customers.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
Minimum of a Master's of Science in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry or equivalent experience
Demonstrate Thermo Fisher Scientific values – Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement
Applications knowledge in life sciences and screening (Drug Discovery, Academic, Genomics, AgroSciences, Diagnostic, etc…)
Detailed understanding of technical issues related to systems integration and/or software development
A keen understanding of all laboratory instrumentation suitable for integration
Ability to make and maintain relationships with sales representatives, customers and 3rd party vendors
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g.Navision)
Excellent interpersonal communications and presentation skills
Technical documentation and writing skills
Preferred: Experience in operating robotic screening systems
Valid driver’s license
Valid passport with no travel restrictions worldwide
