Role Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Automation, the incumbent is accountable for oversight of engineering projects from the initial concept phase to execution. The Project Engineer contributes to team effort by providing innovative ideas for products and processes, cost reduction and/or quality improvement measures and assisting in ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Programs and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible to develop innovative components and modules from the initial concept phase through the complete development process including design engineering, validation, prototyping, testing, evaluation of the proposed production capable process and business case.
Design and conduct research programs, applying theory and principles of mechanics and materials; create new product statement of requirements documentation based on customer, management and /or regulatory inputs.
Perform analysis of potential product/market segments, including competitive benchmarking studies, competitor analysis, review of technical literature.
Assist in business case development and analysis for new products.
Part proposal drawing: starting from rough design concepts up to detail/final drawings, responsible for all drawing information including: tolerance/fits, GD&T specifications.
Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and all its regulations.
Key Qualification / Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience primarily in the field of automation and robotics
Project management experience preferred in the field innovation and R&D
Proficient with 3D CAD solid modeling (SolidWorks)
Ability to run robotics simulation models using offline programming software (RoboDK)
Professional technical report writing
Strong English language skills, both spoken and written.
Technical Skills Requirements:
Design and execute R&D projects
Proficiency in CAD, particularly automation cell development
Ability to design 3D CAD models and produce detailed engineering drawings
Competent working knowledge of industrial robot safety standards and the PHSR process
Understand and apply ladder logic principles, control for I/O, ability to understand PLC commands and HMI usage.
Must have experience programming, start-up, check-out, commissioning and troubleshooting of automation solutions.
Knowledge of Manufacturing Process & Assembly methods
Able to create a DOE and test plan for product or process validation
Experience with robot programming (Fanuc preferred), including 3D vision experience.
Understanding of process and cost models with respect to components and system manufacturing
Knowledge of techniques and processes used to produce prototype components
Awareness of concurrent and simultaneous engineering techniques with the abilities to work as part of a project team to achieve results often with short or compressed timing
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor 's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or
Bachelor 's degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering
