This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, operating within our state-of-the-art facility in Toronto.
Job Overview
The Skilled Painterr will be responsible for applying visually stunning and durable multi-layer finishes to a diverse range of custom architectural elements and artistic sculptures. Working within our dedicated spray booth environment, you will execute precision paint applications on various metal substrates, ensuring every piece meets our exacting standards for aesthetic perfection and longevity. This role requires a meticulous approach, a deep technical understanding of coatings, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with our design and fabrication teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain spray painting equipment, tools, and ventilation systems within a dedicated booth environment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.
- Demonstrate complete fluency in the spray painting system, including accurate color matching, mixing, and layering of paints specifically designed for the signage and architectural industry.
- Apply a wide range of coatings, including lacquers, clearcoats, and specialty finishes, with exceptional precision across varied substrates such such as bronze, copper, stainless steel, and mild steel.
- Execute complex, multi-layer finishes, blending techniques, and intricate masking with unwavering accuracy, staying true to supplier specifications and minimizing material waste.
- Perform rigorous quality control, including wet sanding, polishing, and meticulous visual inspection, to achieve flawless, high-gloss, and long-lasting finishes suitable for high-profile display.
- Interpret and apply information from technical data sheets (TDS), adjusting application techniques and equipment settings based on environmental factors (e.g., humidity), material texture, and complex curvatures of custom forms.
- Collaborate effectively with designers, metalworkers, and project managers, understanding how surface aesthetics and finishing techniques interact with the overall form and context of artistic sculptures and architectural fabrications.
- Maintain an impeccably clean and organized workspace, adhering to all safety regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and performing routine tool and equipment maintenance.
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven professional experience as a high-end painter, ideally with a background comparable to an automotive refinisher, industrial coating specialist, or a similar field demanding extreme precision.
- Demonstrated expertise in spray painting within a dedicated booth environment.
- Verifiable proficiency with mixing and color theory for architectural applications.
- Deep practical knowledge of lacquers, clearcoats, specialty coatings, and their application on various metals.
- Strong portfolio or demonstrable experience in multi-layer finishes, blending, and detailed masking.
- Exceptional skills in quality control, including wet sanding, polishing, and achieving "visual perfection."
- Ability to read and interpret technical data sheets and adapt techniques to challenging project variables.
- Familiarity with artistic sculpture or architectural fabrication workflows is highly advantageous.
- Meticulous attention to detail, patience, and a steady hand for nuanced, high-stakes finishing.
- A collaborative spirit with experience working alongside design or fabrication teams.
