Conventional Pipelines Business Unit (CBU), part of Pembina’s Operations Division Business. Pembina's conventional pipeline assets comprise a strategically located network of pipelines and related infrastructure including various hubs and terminals. This network transports crude oil, condensate and NGL across much of Alberta and parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan and North Dakota.
Reporting to the Foreman, Pipelines, the Tradesperson, Mechanical uses their expertise to ensure Pembina benefits from best-in-class asset performance management and reliability practices. The Tradesperson, Mechanical focuses on maintenance and reliability risk management and works with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations stakeholders to jointly define, design, develop, monitor, and continuously improve a sustainable maintenance and reliability program for all District assets. This ensures the Northern Lights District maximizes equipment up-time and optimizes life cycle costs.
The Tradesperson, Mechanical will focus on:
- Ensuring preventative and predictive maintenance is set up and executed 100% on time;
- Ensuring spare parts for critical equipment are all rationalized and set up in the warehouse;
- Zero rework from maintenance work; and
- Implement reliability tools and processes at the right size and level to support our – 5-10 year plan for getting to excellence.
The successful candidate must live within one of following Northern Light District locations: Whitecourt, Swan Hills, Fox Creek or Valleyview Alberta.

- PM Programs Optimization – coordinate the rationalizing of PM strategies to achieve best value (determining effectiveness and efficiency of the selected maintenance strategy);
- Coordination of the Northern Lights Condition Monitoring Programs (e.g. vibration analysis, lube oil analysis, partial discharge, etc.) including the design, management and analysis of the various programs;
- Working with the site Warehouse team, assist with spare parts analysis: where used, when used, Material Masters (MMs), optimization and rationalization;
- Working with the Area Foremen, provide stewardship and oversight of the Maintenance Department procedures;
- Assist Foremen with maintenance training and competency
- Supporting Risk Registry with the identification of Problems, Threats and Opportunities;
- Provide technical support to Planners and Schedulers in the organizing, prioritization, planning and scheduling of mechanical work, working closely with operations and electrical & instrumentation disciplines to improve efficiency.
- Identify equipment to be monitored, build criticality ranking of equipment
- Support financial processes and promote cost savings initiatives.
- Work with Foreman to drive positive workplace culture and increase engagement.
- Work with other areas and districts to streamline and drive consistent, progressive mechanical strategies.
- Review Collected data, recommend corrective actions, enter notifications to have corrective actions completed
- Supporting corporate Reliability Team with the site rollout of corporate maintenance and reliability initiatives, e.g., Master Data Management.
- Supports establishment of associated reliability and availability targets (KPIs) to achieve asset performance and organizational objectives.
- Development and production of site reliability key performance metrics, e.g., Failure Rates/MTTR.
- Ensures that maintainability and reliability concepts are considered as part of any new design or modifications
- Facilitate criticality assessments to align asset management priorities between operations, maintenance and engineering.
- Perform Bad Actor Analysis using various techniques data sources (e.g. Work Order History/Failures, Incidents, Impairments);
- Facilitate basic Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions, writes RCA reports; provides guidance on other RCA techniques.
- All other duties as assigned; and
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Trade (JM) Certification;- 10+ years experience working in an industrial plant maintenance, operations or engineering environment with previous experience applying maintenance and reliability tools and processes at practicable level;
- Experience in cross-functional maintenance and reliability program implementation and the associated change management;
- Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others;
- Adheres to PEMBINA’s Values to drive results and culture;
- Subject Matter Expert with full understanding of reliability and maintainability concepts, tools, technologies and methodologies;
- Strong knowledge of hydrocarbon industry, automation/instrumentation, electrical, mechanical rotating or static equipment background - other industrial environments will be considered;
- Strong investigative skills and an ability to ask questions to draw out required information;
- Good judgment in problem solving and timely decision-making;
- Familiarity with RCM, RCA and RAM, ERP (SAP), Process Historian tools would be an asset;
- Strong literacy in data analysis methods would be an asset;
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional approach to dealing with PEMBINA staff, vendors and engineering contractors;
- Effective communications both in verbal and written format
- Can manage task assignments in a matrix organization and have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills;
- Team player: willing to continuously and proactively collaborate across all disciplines in the organization including vendors, contractors and regulatory bodies;
- Demonstrated ability to create informal networks across departments to influence continuous improvement and change; and
- Self-aware, able to recognize when stress or fatigue is impacting personal performance and takes steps to mitigate.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
