DIRECTOR OF PARKS, RECREATION & CULTURE
Are you a visionary who is passionate about ensuring citizens are active and connected, and have spaces to exercise, play, and do other activities to improve their quality of life?
The City of Mission is looking for a progressive, innovative, compassionate, results-oriented individual with analytical and problem solving skills to join our Parks, Recreation & Culture Department.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will provide leadership and oversight to the programs and operations of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department, including the Mission Leisure Centre, Social Development program, Boswyk Seniors Activity Centre, the Clarke Foundation Theatre, the Youth Centre, Leqamel, Matsqui and Sumas Society (LMS) lands, trails, open space areas and the Hatzic Cemetery. You will provide advice and guidance to the Chief Administrative Officer, senior staff, Council and community advisory committees to assist them in meeting their strategic objectives.
As the successful candidate, you will have a solid understanding of municipal government processes and legislation. You will possess an open, team-oriented leadership style which promotes continuous improvements. You understand the unique environment in which Parks, Recreation and Culture operates, and you are proactive and forward thinking to address these challenges. You have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team. You will also have experience successfully working with Indigenous communities.
A distinguished management track record and the ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including Council and Indigenous communities, are essential for this position as is having a high degree of integrity due to exposure to highly confidential and/or politically sensitive information.
As the ideal candidate, you will have a post-secondary degree from an accredited university with a major in a related field such as Parks, Recreation or Community Development, Business Administration or Public Administration and a minimum of five years of senior management experience in a municipal parks and recreation setting, along with substantial leadership experience. This position is excluded from the bargaining units and offers a wage rate commensurate with your qualifications and experience.
