Job Description
The experienced Pastry Chef operates under the direct guidance of the Head Chef. In this role, you play a vital part in the day-to-day operations of the bakery or pastry kitchen. You will work closely with the Head Baker or Head Pastry Chef, as well as other team members, to manage daily tasks and schedules.
Beyond crafting pastries and items such as tarts, cheesecakes, and other pastry products, your responsibilities include monitoring inventory and supplies, maintaining a safe and hygienic work environment, washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen, completing routine daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, contributing to recipe and menu development, and suggesting improvements or alternative baking techniques.
Responsibilities
Product:
- Ensure the highest quality standards and maintain product consistency
- Adhere to all standard operating and food safety procedures provided during training
Service:
- Execute pastry and bakery tasks, including scaling ingredients, laminating, filling, icing, and preparing a variety of baked goods such as pastries, cakes, tarts, cookies, and breads
- Execute brunches
- Assist front-of-house operations when needed
- Support product transfer to the front of house, including refilling showcases and shelves under the guidance of the supervisor or manager
- Maintain clear communication with front-of-house staff to support product preparation and service flow
- Report customer feedback or complaints to the Head Pastry Chef
- Identify and report product quality issues, inventory shortages, and assist in maintaining a purchasing list
- Answer phone calls professionally, provide store information, and take customer orders (including custom cakes)
- Ensure efficient, friendly, and professional service
Environment:
- Organize ingredient transfers between delivery areas, dry storage, kitchen, and walk-in fridge/freezer, and replenish shelves and ingredient bins as needed
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, storage areas, walk-in fridge/freezer, mixers, ovens, and all equipment; wash dishes and dispose of waste according to the cleaning schedule
- Move ingredients and finished products to and from storage areas as required
- Assist with weekly inventory counts under supervisor guidance
- Report safety hazards, incidents, or operational issues to the Head Chef or supervisor on duty
Requirements, Qualifications & Physical Demands
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to stand, walk, talk, and hear for extended periods
- Frequent use of hands for handling tools, equipment, and ingredients
- Ability to lift and/or move items up to 40 lbs
- Comfortable handling food, hot items, and operating bakery equipment such as mixers and ovens
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Pastry Chef or in a similar role
Pay: From $21.00 per hour
