Communications Specialist
Rideau Valley Conservation Authority
Manotick, ON

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is the lead intermunicipal agency working to address river-related environmental issues and concerns within the Rideau Valley watershed. Thanks to our many partners, the scope of our environmental protection work includes planning, source water protection, tackling flooding and erosion problems and researching water movement and use in the valley. We help people maintain healthy shorelines, provide advice on development-related issues and report to municipalities, agencies and the public about watershed conditions and trends. We also provide public access to natural waterfront areas, deliver community-based stewardship programs, reduce water pollution and protect fish and wildlife habitat.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Outreach, you will develop and oversee a range of communications projects. Efforts include writing and distribution of press releases, feature stories, newsletters, reports, presentations, website content and social media posts. You will assist with the development of displays, marketing videos, interpretive signs, slide shows and speech writing. You will support the coordination of public events, speaking engagements, press conferences and official openings. Your goal is to facilitate the smooth running of daily operations and success of RVCA communications projects while enhancing our reputation in the watershed community.

As the ideal candidate, you have a college diploma or university degree in communications, marketing, public relations, environmental science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). You have excellent verbal and written communications skills in English — French verbal skills are a definite asset. You have a proven track record in prioritizing and time management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines as competing priorities emerge. A valid G or better driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is a requirement.

If you have the above skills and experience, plus a strong commitment to the environment and the protection of land and water resources, please send your resume and covering letter, no later than October 18, 2019, via email.
