Vacancy Status : This is an existing vacancy
The Apprentice Electrician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems and equipment that keep our cannabis manufacturing operations running safely and efficiently. This includes production lines, lighting systems, environmental controls, motors, VFDs, MCCs, and building services. The role works inside a highly regulated facility, where accuracy in documentation, adherence to SOPs, and coordination with cross‑functional teams are essential. Work is performed in accordance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and applicable safety standards. Operating within a Health Canada–regulated environment requires strong compliance discipline and meticulous record‑keeping.
Installation & Maintenance
- Install, test, and commission wiring, conduits, panels, breakers, switchgear, and fixtures for low‑ and medium‑voltage systems across production and utilities.
- Maintain and repair motors, VFDs, PLC‑controlled equipment, lighting (including grow lighting), and process instrumentation to minimize downtime.
Perform preventive maintenance on MCCs, generators, and building electrical systems; update PM records in the CMMS.

Troubleshooting & Operations
- Diagnose electrical faults using meters and test equipment; identify root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Support environmental/controls systems (e.g., greenhouse or building automation platforms such as Priva) in collaboration with E&I/controls specialists and facilities staff.
Partner with manufacturing, quality, and engineering to coordinate equipment lock‑outs, line changeovers, and safe start‑ups.

Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Work to Ontario Electrical Safety Code, OHSA, CSA Z462 (arc flash), lockout/tagout, and WHMIS requirements; maintain clean, safe work areas.
- Complete work orders, SOP checklists, logs, and GMP‑relevant documentation with precision to support audits and regulatory reviews.
Operate within a Health Canada–regulated facility; follow controlled‑area access rules and site security/work practices.

Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, equipment reliability, and system safety.
- Recommend spare parts stocking levels; collaborate with vendors and contractors during installs and outages.
Licensing & Education
- Valid Ontario Apprentice License: 309A Construction/Maintenance or 442A Industrial Electrician (Journeyman / Red Seal considered an asset).
Experience
- 3+ years in industrial/manufacturing or food/pharma/cannabis environments, supporting automated processes and packaging lines.
Hands‑on experience with motors/VFDs, MCCs, PLC‑driven equipment, lighting, and power distribution; familiarity with greenhouse/building controls (e.g., Priva) is an asset.

Technical & Compliance Skills
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and safe work practices; proficient with LOTO, arc‑flash boundaries, and PPE selection.
Comfortable with CMMS usage, SOP execution, and GMP‑style documentation in regulated operations.

- Detail‑oriented with excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset; able to coordinate work with production, quality, engineering, and external contractors.
Ability to work occasional overtime/on‑call during outages to support critical operations.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 22 kg (50 lbs), work at heights and in confined spaces, climb ladders/stairs, and use powered lifts where required.
Compensation range : $27 - $35/hr. Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, tickets, and internal equity.
