Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care within a busy clinical environment, supporting physicians and other healthcare professionals. Candidates should possess strong nursing skills, excellent communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of medical terminology.
Duties:
Patient Screening
Review patient histories and referral documentation prior to appointments; identify clinical flags, allergy risks, and contraindications to planned procedures; liaise with the care team to ensure each patient is appropriately triaged.
Pre-Procedure Safety Assessment
Conduct structured pre-procedural assessments including vital signs, medication reconciliation, consent verification, anticoagulant review, and patient anxiety/pain scoring; communicate findings to the physician and care team before each case.
Procedure Room Setup
Prepare and stock procedure suites prior to each case; arrange sterile fields, imaging equipment (C-arm, ultrasound), medication trays, and emergency supplies in accordance with clinic protocols and physician preferences; perform time-out procedures.
Room Turnover & Cleaning
Perform thorough and timely room turnover between procedures; dispose of sharps and biohazard waste per IPAC protocols; disinfect procedure tables, equipment surfaces, and imaging systems; restock supplies and document cleaning compliance.
Patient Discharge & Post-Procedure Care
Monitor patients in the recovery area following procedures; assess neurological status, pain levels, vital signs, and procedure site; provide verbal discharge instructions; confirm a safe transport plan; and document the complete post-procedure encounter in the EMR.
Experience
(non-registered nurses may apply for consideration of alternative positions)
- Certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is required
- Current registration in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM);
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred but not required;
- Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred; experience in a surgical, procedural, or pain management setting strongly preferred;
- Familiarity with fluoroscopy-guided and interventional procedures is an asset but not a requirement;
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, IPAC protocols, and medication safety;
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems (experience with Telus CHR or similar is an asset);
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment;
- Compassionate communication style with patients experiencing chronic pain and anxiety;
- Proven experience in nursing or a related healthcare setting is preferred;
- Knowledge of medical terminology is essential for accurate documentation and communication;
- Prior experience in patient care roles demonstrates ability to handle diverse clinical situations effectively;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide empathetic patient support;
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
