Position Overview
IAA is looking for an Ikajuqti (Helper/Coordinator) to help with community outreach, programs, events and day-to-day project work across Alberta.
We are looking for someone dependable, organized, comfortable working directly with community, and able to follow through on their work.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Connect and follow up with Inuit community members across Alberta.
- Help coordinate focus groups, surveys, consultations and community engagement.
- Share community information, programs and resources.
- Help identify and document community needs and priorities.
Programs & Events
- Plan, develop, coordinate and deliver Inuit cultural programs, gatherings and events that respond to community interests and priorities.
- Build and maintain relationships with Inuit Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural teachers and facilitators, and coordinate their meaningful involvement in programs and activities.
- Help develop calls for interest and program opportunities, communicate them to the community, organize submissions and support the selection process.
- Coordinate participant and event logistics, including registration, venues, supplies, equipment, transportation, scheduling, catering and other operational requirements.
- Provide support to community members participating in programs and activities.
- Support culturally relevant programs and activities that strengthen Inuit identity, connection, relationships, knowledge sharing and community wellbeing.
- Work with community partners, staff and volunteers to make sure programs are well organized, accessible and reflect Inuit values, priorities and ways of being.
Project & Admin Support
- Maintain and organize clear program documentation, including attendance records and community feedback.
- Help prepare meeting notes, summaries and basic reports.
- Support meeting coordination and follow-up for the IAA team and Board as needed.
- Support other project and administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
We are for someone with:
- Knowledge of Inuit culture, community realities and issues affecting Inuit in Alberta is an asset.
- Lived experience within Inuit communities or experience working with Inuit communities is highly valued.
- Experience with Inuit/Indigenous community work or community programming is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently, use sound judgment rooted in IQ principles, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Reliability, accountability, initiative and follow-through on commitments.
- Professionalism, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A respectful and grounded approach to working with Inuit Elders, Knowledge Keepers, families and community members.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, email, shared files and basic tracking tools.
- Cultural humility, openness to learning and an understanding of the importance of Inuit ways of knowing, being and relating.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Alberta, including occasional travel to communities and events.
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends, as required.
- Willingness to complete a Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Check, if required.
Preference will be given to Inuit applicants, including beneficiaries of Inuit Land Claim Agreements.

Pay: $32.00-$36.00 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Calgary, AB
