Green Ladder Contractors is a fast-growing exterior renovation company building high-end composite and treated-lumber decks, fences, and structural outdoor projects for clients who desire the exceptional. We're professional, production-focused, and building something real, and we need a Lead Hand who can walk onto a jobsite and run it.
We are seeking to continue our growth and custom quality building with another crew. David (the owner) is looking to balance time between a couple crews - and is seeking the right experienced individual to help ensure projects continue with production, vision, quality, and according to required codes (we build above and beyond code - not just “to code”).
We're currently facing the opportunity to triple in size. Your growth potential here is directly tied to how you help us get there.
The Role
Lead Hand / Site Carpenter
You'll take ownership of daily site operations, leading one crew to start. You set the pace, hold the standard, and make sure the work reflects the Green Ladder brand every single day.
This isn't a "senior labourer" role. This is a production leadership role for someone who can walk into a custom project, read the build, lead the crew, and deliver without hand-holding.
What You'll Actually Do
- Lead one crew from day one, with a clear path to managing two active sites as we scale
- Maintain structural and code compliance with Alberta building codes for exterior construction
- Ensure every job meets Green Ladder's quality standard: framing, composite installation, finishing, and client-facing presentation
- Solve problems on the fly and keep work moving without waiting for the owner
- Set the tone for professionalism, pace, and craftsmanship on site
- Communicate directly with clients when needed: you represent the company
- Hold crew members accountable (in a positive and friendly way) to production targets and quality benchmarks
- Help team members with training, coaching, guidance on various craft techniques, tricks and skills. Be a willing teacher to members of the crew - so everyone has the opportunity to grow their career, and skillset.
What You Bring
- Significant hands-on experience in deck building, structural carpentry, or exterior construction. This is non-negotiable
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew to hit production targets
- Solid knowledge of Alberta Building Code (and other provincial codes - with higher standards ideally) as it applies to exterior structures (decks, fences, structural outdoor work)
- Experience with composite decking systems and treated lumber framing
- Intrinsically motivated: you don't need someone standing over you. You see what needs to happen and you make it happen
- Detail-oriented and unwilling to cut corners. We don't cut corners, we cut composite, glass, aluminum, and wood products - all with precision
- High personal standards for quality and craftsmanship, even under schedule pressure
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (required)
- Professional presentation: you're the face of Green Ladder on site
- Open-minded, honest, and grounded in integrity. This is a culture thing as much as a skills thing
Nice to Have
- Red Seal or carpentry trade certification (not absolutely necessary, but a huge plus ++!)
- Experience managing others and jobsites in a tidy, organized way that promotes safety, and production.
What You Get
- Competitive pay, and if you can do what this role requires, we'll compensate accordingly
- A company that's growing fast and wants you to grow with it
- A crew that works hard, laughs along the way, and supports each other
- Real autonomy and a servant leadership culture. You lead from the front, work alongside your crew, and earn respect by doing, not just directing
- Work on mid-to-high luxury projects using premium products: the kind of work you're proud to put your name on
- After your 3-month probation: access to a health spending account for benefits, and eligibility for an accelerated performance bonus structure weighted to your results, not just your hours
Who You Are
You're looking for more than a job. You want a place to bring your professionalism, your passion for perfection, and your creativity to clients' backyards. You drive production without burning people out. You care about code compliance and quality because you take pride in your work, not because someone's watching.
You're positive, solutions-oriented, and want to be part of something long-term…and enjoy some laughs along the way.
If that's you, we want to hear from you.
