A Marketing Strategist uses marketing research and analysis to plan and create marketing strategies and implementation tactics for a client. The Marketing Strategist supports this function with thorough research and analysis, using a variety of primary and secondary research tools and skills. Under the guidance of the Director of Strategy and Senior Strategists at William Joseph, the Strategist will help prepare initial insights to found marketing strategies, develop brands, and create marketing strategies, as well as perform continued analysis of the success of clients’ marketing.

Provide Clients Strategic Direction

  • Writes formal marketing research documents, plans, and brand strategies for clients
  • Creates strategic direction for client marketing, building on research
  • Helps clients devise strategies to increase sales and market share
  • Determines how all facets of clients’ marketing must be changed to align with strategic direction
  • Uses research of the external environment (including competition) to provide further focus for strategic direction of a client
  • Develops strong brand concepts that are authentic, differentiating, and compelling
  • Uses creative language to help craft brands that are poignant, unique, and expressive
  • Finds quantitative and qualitative data pertinent to a client’s marketing situation from a variety of sources
  • Finds tough-to-locate, credible information and data that is directly relevant to clients
  • Performs industry analysis, competitor analysis, and customer profiling and draws useful insights that tie directly into later marketing phases
  • Determines an ideal target audience and segments customers, with support from a senior strategist

Increases Efficiencies in the Strategy Department and William Joseph

  • Reviews project initiatives and measures progress against goals
  • Ensures that all reports are well-written, tactful, and succinct
  • Communicates efficiently and effectively with the rest of the team
  • Manages multiple projects and maintains tight timelines, often working around strict and sometimes sudden deadlines
  • Remains within the predetermined scope and timelines set for a project and notifies Senior Strategists, the Director of Strategy, and/or Account Managers when unable to

Meets with Clients to Understand Strategy Needs and Present Solutions

  • Meets with clients to obtain marketing information and understanding
  • Participate in initial meetings with clients to learn about their business, environment, and customers
  • Acquires qualitative and quantitative information that gives context and insight into a client’s marketing situation
  • Presents reports to clients and receives feedback from them, in conjunction with the account representatives

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in business, economics, or communications is required as strategy requires a great deal of theoretical understanding; an MBA is preferred
  • Two years of experience in a business (preferably marketing) position is required
