Position Summary
The Packaging Team Lead is responsible for leading and supporting packaging team members to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. Working closely with the Production Manager and Production Supervisors, the Team Lead monitors daily operations, coordinates workflow, ensures compliance with food safety and quality standards, and provides guidance and support to team members to meet production goals.
Schedule: morning and afternoon shifts available: 7:00am – 3:00pm/ PM: 3:00pm – 11:00pm
Hours: 40 per week
Rate of Pay: $22 per hour
Duties and Responsibilities
- Package products according to packaging specifications, expiration codes, and quality standards.
- Verify line quality checks, including CCP documentation, sensory evaluations, weight checks, parameter documentation, and control charts. Accurately report production quantities.
- Document corrective actions taken for out-of-control processes.
- Enter production data into the Navision system.
- Perform pre-operational quality and safety inspections.
- Ensure compliance with GMPs, food safety requirements, quality standards, and company policies.
- Maintain clean work areas, equipment, and trays while ensuring workspaces remain free of hazards.
- Work with mixers and operators to resolve packaging equipment issues and perform basic troubleshooting as required.
- Manage material and finished product flow in the packaging area using FIFO principles.
- Coordinate team breaks and provide relief coverage as required. Must be capable of performing all packaging-related tasks.
- Direct, monitor, train, and support packaging line team members to ensure production targets are achieved.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following all safety procedures, wearing required PPE, and ensuring product quality and food safety standards are met.
- Act as Fire Warden for assigned team members.
- Complete all required training related to food safety, allergens, gluten awareness, quality systems, and workplace safety.
- Demonstrate a shared commitment to the development and continuous improvement of a positive food safety and quality culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Secondary school diploma preferred.
- Previous experience leading, training, coaching, or supervising employees in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Computer skills, including data entry and system navigation.
- Strong mathematical skills, including percentages, decimals, arithmetic, graph interpretation, and measurements.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation and coaching skills with the ability to direct and motivate team members.
- Administrative skills with the ability to manage documentation, records, and priorities in a timely manner.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting and understand fundamental mechanical concepts.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships and drive team performance.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and commonly used production procedures.
- Familiarity with HACCP principles and food safety programs.
The ideal candidate should have good people management skills and experience working on a line as a Team Lead.
