ABOUT THE PRACTICE
Our client is a boutique wealth management practice that has served affluent individuals, families and business owners for more than 30 years. The firm provides highly personalized financial guidance across wealth management and family office services, helping clients navigate both their personal and business financial lives — bringing together financial planning, investment management, risk management and long-term wealth strategies through trusted, enduring relationships.
Operating within the platform of one of Canada's leading national wealth management firms, the practice combines the personalized approach of a boutique with the resources, infrastructure and regulatory framework of a nationally recognized organization. The team is collaborative, relationship-driven and deeply committed to doing excellent work for the right clients.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity for an experienced Financial Planner who wants to spend more time genuinely advising clients — and less time operating within a traditional sales or product-driven environment.
Reporting to the Senior Wealth Advisor, you will take primary advisory responsibility for a segment of client families while supporting other relationships across the practice. You will work closely with clients to understand their circumstances, goals, investment objectives, risk tolerance and broader personal and business priorities, then develop meaningful strategies, build and implement portfolio recommendations, and remain actively involved as those plans evolve. This is a hands-on advisory role for someone who values long-term relationships, thoughtful planning and seeing recommendations through to implementation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as primary advisor for a portfolio of client families and as secondary advisor on other relationships.
- Develop a deep understanding of clients' personal and business circumstances, goals, risk tolerance, risk capacity and investment objectives.
- Create comprehensive personal and business financial plans, wealth strategies and recommendations.
- Build and implement appropriate portfolio recommendations and help translate them into meaningful action.
- Provide ongoing account oversight, client follow-up and reporting, recommending adjustments as circumstances evolve.
- Work with financial planning software and internal resources to develop comprehensive client strategies.
- Collaborate closely with senior advisors, other financial professionals and administrative team members.
- Coordinate with clients' accountants, lawyers and other professional advisors as required.
- Support accurate client record keeping, regulatory compliance, reporting and tax-related processes.
- Participate in client appreciation events, educational workshops and seminars, and maintain current industry knowledge through continuing education.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum five years of experience in a client-facing financial advisory or financial planning role.
- Current CIRO securities licensing.
- CFP® designation.
- Strong financial literacy and demonstrated experience creating comprehensive financial plans and strategies.
- Strong understanding of investments, portfolio construction, financial planning principles and wealth management.
- Experience with modern financial planning software and related wealth management technology.
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong ability to build trust and long-term client relationships.
- High degree of accuracy, organization, attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Self-motivated, comfortable taking ownership of client needs, and effective both independently and within a closely integrated team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems.
- A valid driver's licence and personal vehicle, as regular time will be spent at both office locations.
WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT
An insurance licence, combined with experience developing and implementing insurance and risk-management solutions, would be a strong asset. The successful candidate will bring personal accountability, initiative, sound decision-making and genuine curiosity — comfortable building meaningful client relationships while remaining practical, organized and consistent in execution.
WHO THIS MAY APPEAL TO
This role may particularly suit an experienced Financial Planner or Wealth Advisor currently working within a bank, credit union, investment firm or traditional financial institution who wants a different kind of advisory environment — one where:
- Client relationships are valued beyond sales quotas and product targets.
- You have enough capacity to understand clients and serve them properly.
- Financial plans are actively implemented rather than simply produced.
- Advice can consider the client's broader personal, family and business circumstances.
- Long-term relationships and quality of advice matter more than transaction volume.
- You can continue developing professionally alongside an experienced advisory team.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Annual compensation of $80,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience, plus bonus structure.
- Medical, dental and long-term disability benefits.
- Employer-supported professional development and continuing education.
- Mentorship and ongoing professional growth.
- Team events and appreciation activities.
- On-site parking at both office locations; business casual environment.
