TRUE CRIME RESEARCHER / BOOKER — MANITOBA
We’re looking for Manitoba-based Researchers/Bookers to join the production team of a true crime television series.
Candidates must currently reside in Manitoba.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in television, journalism, documentary, factual programming, research or booking who knows how to dig beyond a basic Google search, find the right people and build the relationships needed to get them on camera.
Role Expectations
- Conduct deep-dive research into true crime cases using court records, news archives, public records and primary sources.
- Identify and track down key contributors, including victims and families, investigators, attorneys, journalists, experts and firsthand witnesses.
- Conduct pre-interviews and assess potential contributors for their editorial value and on-camera suitability.
- Conduct cold outreach and persistent follow-up to secure contributors.
- Book and coordinate interviews while maintaining professional communication with contributors throughout the process.
- Verify facts, dates, names, locations and other key story details.
- Source archival footage, photographs, documents, news coverage and other supporting materials.
- Prepare clear research briefs, timelines, contributor profiles and pre-interview notes for producers and writers.
- Maintain organized records of outreach, contacts, booking status, research sources and releases.
- Work closely with producers, story editors and the wider production team as stories develop.
- Approach victims, families and sensitive subject matter with professionalism, empathy and discretion.
- Work independently, meet deadlines and pivot quickly when stories or production priorities change.
Who We’re Looking For
Applicants must be based in Manitoba. Previous experience in television research, journalism, documentary, true crime, factual programming or booking/casting is an asset.
You should be a strong researcher, confident communicator and persistent booker who isn't afraid to pick up the phone, chase a difficult lead or find another way in when the obvious approach doesn't work.
Pay: $1,400.00 per week
