Robotics Instructor – VEX IQ & VEX V5

About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Robotics Instructor to lead hands-on robotics classes for students ages 13–17 in Grimsby.
The ideal candidate has practical experience with VEX IQ and VEX V5 robotics systems and is comfortable teaching both VEXcode Blocks and Python programming.
Classes will take place once per week on a weekend, with each session lasting approximately 90 minutes.
This is a hands-on teaching role. The instructor will guide students through designing, building, programming, testing, and improving robots while developing their problem-solving, engineering, and programming skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging, structured robotics classes for students ages 13–17
- Teach students how to design, build, and troubleshoot robots using VEX IQ and VEX V5
- Teach programming using VEXcode Blocks and Python
- Explain robotics, engineering, and programming concepts in a clear and age-appropriate way
- Guide students through hands-on robotics projects and challenges
- Help students test, troubleshoot, and improve their robot designs and programs
- Prepare and follow lesson plans and structured learning activities
- Encourage teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and independent thinking
- Maintain a positive, organized, and safe learning environment
- Set up, organize, and properly maintain robotics equipment
- Provide occasional feedback or progress updates to parents and program management
Required Qualifications
- Practical experience working with VEX IQ and VEX V5 robotics systems
- Strong working knowledge of VEXcode Blocks
- Knowledge of Python programming
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a simple and engaging way
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable leading a group of students
- Ability to work independently and manage a 90-minute class effectively
- Availability to teach once per week on a weekend in Grimsby
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, or mentoring children or teenagers
- Experience with VEX robotics competitions or competition preparation
- Experience developing robotics or STEM lesson plans
- Background or education in robotics, engineering, computer science, programming, education, or a related field
- Passion for STEM education and working with young people
Schedule
- One 90-minute class per week
- Weekend availability required
- Classes are held in person in Grimsby, Ontario
- Opportunity for additional classes or programs may become available as the program grows
Compensation
- Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications
Additional Requirements
- Successful candidate must be eligible to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check / background screening as required for working with youth.
